Louis Bleriot Memorial, Dover Castle, Kent, UK

Bleriot landed behind the castle in Northfall Meadow on Sunday, July 25th, 1909:


Photo taken on a bike ride from Dover to St Margaret's-at-Cliffe. 

The flight across the English Channel from Les Barraques (near Calais, France) took 36 and 1/2 minutes.

It was made in a Bleriot Type XI monoplane fitted with a 25-horsepower, 3 cylinder Anzani motor.

Memorial presented by the Aero Club (subsequently Royal Aero Club) whose members included Alexander Duckham and Charles Rolls of Rolls Royce fame.
